That Die Hard Thing

31 for October

"I absolutely loved this collection of horror short stories. Very entertaining and some reminded me of the Scary Stories to Read in the Dark that I loved. Must read for any horror junkies like myself."

~ Reader Review

Stories Perfect for Halloween or anytime you want a scary vibe.

Vampires, ghouls, zombies, witches, werewolves, monsters, murderers, and their ilk not only grace the pages, but host the tales as well.

This series is hosted by a menagerie of monsters, each relating 31 tales for each day in October. The stories themselves are in the same vein as “Tales from the Crypt”, “Monsters”, “Tales from the Darkside”, and the “Twilight Zone”. The hosts interact between books in the series in a manner that continues their backstory yet allows for a non-linear approach to reading the series. You don’t have to read them in any particular order at all, but they all fit together in their own strange little world.

These books set the Halloween mood perfectly, but don’t be fooled into thinking they are only suitable for October. Any time you need a little creepy vibe, you can count on the stories in these volumes to provide that scary atmosphere. Any day can be Halloween.

31 Graves for October

“I have a bet for you, ghoul. This charm against your fancy convertible out there,” said the vampire.
Despite himself, Thornton looked into her black soulless eyes. “On what terms?”
She smiled, fangs curling over her bottom lip. “I wager that you can’t eat a corpse a day for all October, then come back and tell me something interesting about them before midnight on Halloween.”

31 Tombs for October

“This charm hasn’t touched a living hand in over 750 years,” Addison lamented.
Thornton Sharpe smiled, revealing pointed teeth. “Well, it still hasn’t,” he said and seized the talisman.
“Ghoul, take it for a year. Next October, give me a chance to win it back. 31 tombs in a month. I will sense their consciousness and tell you their tales. Double or nothing,” said Addison.
Thornton asked, “I suspected vampires could read minds, just didn’t know it also worked on the dead. You have another magic charm?”
“Better. I have a keep. Kind of like a castle, but smaller. A great place for you to park that convertible of yours,” she said.

31 Spells for October

The old witch walked up to the werewolf, gently stroking his dark fur. She took a withered old tea towel and dipped it in her boiling cauldron, currently only heating water for her laundry. Adélaïde lovingly wiped muck from the werewolf’s thick coat.
“I tell you what I’m going to do, wolf. So you don’t get bored, I am going to tell you a story about each of the spells I am going to cast. One a day until Halloween. How’d you like that?” she asked.
Though the werewolf couldn’t reply, she could swear she saw a twinkle in his eye. Adélaïde grabbed her spellbook and opened to the first page.

31 chances for the apocalypse. 31 tales that witness the world’s end. 31 ends to all time.
31 Dystopian Realms for October is somewhat of a departure from the series in that it is sci-fi horror, yet it retains all the elements and atmosphere as its predecessors. There has never been a collection of post-apocalyptic tales quite like it. It is truly a unique anthology.
So, how does the world end? Take your choice. You have greedy evil corporations, monsters, zombies, nuclear winter, and more. Unfettered growth of teeth throughout the body (Multiphasic Totius Corporis Hyperdontia) cause humans to degrade into monstrous form in both appearance and brutality. Ravenous pigs multiply faster than they can be killed, feeding on human prey. The undead shamble through civilization wreaking havoc and destruction. All these are more can be found as vehicles to the apocalypse.

"Hurry, hurry, hurry! Step right up, folks! Amazing experiences abound! More marvels than you can imagine! More spectacles than you can spot! More enigma than anyone can entertain! See the sensational selkie perform her stupendous splash, voluptuous vixens with vipers, become bedeviled by the baffling blue children, ride the rides, see the sights! Come one, come all..."

Aggie, Mark and Ian had come to stay with their Uncle Montressor at Issachar Marx's Travelling Carnival after the mysterious disappearance of their parents. Since then, everything has been like they were pulled straight into a nightmare! Everything is so surreal. They have faced evil magicians, scary characters, weird clowns, monsters, carnivorous plants, and even more crazy things. With each turn comes a new unimaginable riddle that threatens to destroy them.
