The Briterion Collection

The Briterion Collection is dedicated to raising awareness for the world's finest of terrible theatrical crimes. Films from around the world of the lowest technical and production quality, painful dramatic interpretation, asinine and ludicrous writing, and laughable special effects to enhance the appreciation of the art of craptacular cinema.

In future blog posts, we will examine the best of the worst. From unknown directors such as Clive Turner, Claudio Fragasso, Tommy Lee Wallace, and Umberto Lenzi to well known directors that "missed the mark" such as John Carpenter, George A. Romero, and Ridley Scott. Anyone can make a "turd" movie but it takes inadvertent craftmanship to make a silk purse from a sow's ear. It is the incidental diamond in the rough movies that we will examine here.

Only the enjoyably awful will be awarded with the Briterion Collection seal of disapproval. The film has to be not only watchable but re-watchable from an entertainment standpoint. Alcohol must not be required, but is certainly not entirely discredited, from adding to the value of laughability. It must not have been made intentionally ridiculous (such as "Airplane"). Theatrical release is encouraged but direct to video movies will be considered.

UPDATE - 10/21/23 -

Part of the criteria for these films has been unearthed from another blog post, long since buried. I figured I would include an image of the "10 Commandments for Craptacular Films" here for posterity.
